In a trading statement released today, Marks & Spencer reported a disappointing Christmas season, with sales of clothing and homeware products remaining under pressure.

Roger Holmes, chief executive, said that the fall in clothing sales was impacted by warm weather, but that in cases where the product was right, the company achieved strong sales growth.
