Export highs forecast for 2004

The outlook for the export industry looks set to pick up in the year ahead.

Despite the positive forecast, however, there may be job losses in the forthcoming year.

John Whelan of the Irish Exports Association says that the industry went through a bad period in 2003, with export sales generally down about 10%.

But, he said, there are signs of an upturn in 2004: “Barring the euro’s strength we’re looking at good potential in 2004".
