Mining company Arcon has withdrawn protective notices issued to 200 staff last week after SIPTU lifted its overtime ban at the Galmoy, Co Kilkenny plant.

Negotiations on pay rises - which had led to the action - will begin again next week, according to a statement released by the company.

Arcon said it took the action last week as any losses imposed by altering the production schedule were unsustainable.

The company also blamed low zinc prices and currency fluctuations between the euro and US dollar as having a negative impact on its business.
