Report calls for urgent revival of broadband approach
A report on broadband published today by the Information Society Commission (ISC) has called for a fresh approach by the Government to broadband infrastructure.
The report proposed ten high level recommendations to the Government.
The Commission called for a National Broadband Strategy to be developed urgently, and for the Minister for Communications to be given responsibility for delivery of a costed, integrated programme.
The report also advises for the provision of a budget to ensure stability for all aspects of execution of the plan.
Speaking at the launch of the report, the chairperson of the ISC's broadband working group Dr Patricia O'Hara called for the Government to act urgently to reinvigorate its commitment to the information society by speeding up the availability of broadband services saying that at the moment there are "no services or competition in most parts of the country".
