Electric Paper rolls out UK prison programme

Irish company Electric Paper, part of ThirdForce plc, announced that it has begun roll-out of its computer-based training and testing solutions to 57 prisons across the UK.

This rollout follows a successful pilot project with the Yorkshire & Humberside Prison Services, where Electric Paper materials were made available to prisoners there to study for the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL).

Electric Paper say that to date, there has been a 100% pass rate by those that have taken ECDL examination after studying with Electric Paper courseware. This figure includes several learners who had not previously used computers.

Commenting on the project, Electric Paper Managing Director, Jonny Parkes said, " We are pleased to help inexperienced computer users to achieve an internationally recognised ECDL qualification that is valued by employers."

In addition to five prisons in the initial pilot and a further 10 institutions that are independently deploying Electric Paper's solution, the Prisons ICT Academy (PICTA) is rolling the programme out to 18 Prisons in the UK.

The programme will also be used in 24 institutions under the Prison Service Plus initiative.
