Lord Conrad Black could be facing criminal charges if US financial watchdogs find him guilty of illegal activity during his tenure at the head of Telegraph owner Hollinger International.

Earlier this week Lord Black admitted he and fellow directors had accepted £19m (€27.20m) in "non compete" payments from rival publishers without authorisation from the board or shareholders.
