Western European new car registrations were down 0.3% in October from the previous year, the Association for automobiles Acea reported.

Volkswagen AG brands - including Volkswagen, Audi, Seat and Skoda, saw a drop in registrations of 5% from a year earlier.

Renault SA said new car registrations rise 0.9% while Fiat saw a fall of 2.6%. The Ford group's registrations fell by 5.2% while General Motors group registrations fell by 1%.

The PSA Group - Peugeot SA and Citroen saw a drop of 6.6%.

Gainers were Korean brands with a rise year-on-year of 22.4%, followed by Japanese brands which rose 18.5% and MG Rover Group by 17.6%.
