Revenue down for Irish Dell subsidiary

Revenue at Irish Dell subsidiary, Dell Direct, fell by 33% to €99.2m from €148m, in the twelve months to January 2003.

Despite the slump in revenue, pre-profits at the Dublin call centre remained steady at €10.7m in the period against €10.9m in the same period last year.

It is speculated that the dip in revenue could be a consequence of restructuring the unit, which saw Dell relocating part of its technical support functions from Bray and Cherrywood sites in Dublin to Indian call centres.

Dell Direct employs 1,148 people and provides data processing and telemarketing services to Ireland, Britain and some parts of Europe.

In total Dell employs approximately 4,200 full time staff in Ireland, with 3,400 employed at its European manufacturing unit in Limerick.
