Irish Broadband 'to maximise FWLAA'

Irish Broadband promised today that it would make maximum use of the fixed wireless local area access (FWLAA) licences it was awarded yesterday by ComReg.

ComReg announced yesterday that it was offering 59 new FWLAA local area licences in the 3.5GHz band, to further stimulate the development of broadband services in Ireland.

The award of the seven prime licences to Irish Broadband means that as well as Dublin, the company will be in a position to provide fixed wireless access in Cork, Limerick, Galway, Waterford, Drogheda and Dundalk.

Paul Doody, Managing Director, Irish Broadband, said: "Our licences are equivalent to the most widely deployed spectrum by telcos worldwide and therefore we can provide the cheapest and most cost-effective broadband solutions in the Irish market.

"Irish Broadband can now deliver broadband to 80% of the population within six months."
