Union recognition at heart of Siptu

Dublin City Council have accused Siptu of using their workforce as 'pawns' following the issue of strike notice today.

The union took the action in a dispute with a private company called Oxigen over union recognition.

As part of this dispute bins in parts of Dublin City may not be collected and parts of the city may not be cleaned.

Some other services may also be disrupted.

Dublin City Council have said that it cannot be held responsible for other companies industrial relations' policies and have blamed Siptu for the interruption to City services.

In a statement issued today, a spokesperson for Dublin County Council said: "We regret that our workforce are being used as pawns by SIPTU to further their objectives elsewhere.

"The onus is on SIPTU to explain to residents in Dublin City why their waste remains uncollected and their streets are unswept because of a dispute in which Dublin City Council has no part," the statement added.
