French economic woes after heatwave
Industrial production in France fell by 0.9% in August from July, marking a 1.2% decline for the year, according to French statistics office INSEE.
Consumer prices also rose by 0.5% on a monthly basis, partly due to the summer heatwave which was responsible for an estimated 13,600 more deaths than usual in the month.
This put annual inflation at 2.2%.
Manufactured output had fallen by 0.8% in August and by 1.8% on a 12-month basis.
