Boots report solid Irish performance

Once again, Boots' Irish stores have turned in a solid performance with strong growth in both Health and Beauty.

Earlier today the company released its half-year trading update.

The company notched up second quarter to end-September sales growth of 3.0% with a like for like increase of 2.9%.

Although this was below sector analysts' forecasts, the group has reported that Irish sales were on track.

Boots currently has 30 stores in Ireland and will open stores in Limerick and Clonmel before Christmas. Boots recently announced its plans to open a further 13 new outlets in Ireland over the next three years, bringing the number employed to 1,500.

This represents a €43m investment by the company .

Deirdre Burns, Boots spokesperson in Ireland, commented: "We have had a strong start to the year with excellent performances in Health and Beauty.

"We are keen to increase our presence in the market with our continued expansion, whilst continuing to deliver the products and services our customers want.

"We intend to build on this performance in the run up to Christmas with our best range of gifts and offers ever."
