O2 forms new European alliance

Mm02, the company which operates the 02 mobile service, has said that it has formed an alliance with some of Europe’s smaller mobile phone companies.

Operators from nine different countries have joined the alliance, which includes Italian mobile operator Wind, Telenor of Norway and Spain’s Amena.

The object of the alliance seems to be to form a block to negotiate on such things as cross border pricing and services.

It is hoped that it will form a block that will be a match for large companies such as Vodafone and T-Mobile.

It is possible that the alliance may lead to some mergers between the companies involved.

02 is sixth in Europe in number of subscribers and has operations in Ireland, the UK and Germany.
