Training scheme launched for craft workers

The Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union and the employers' body IBEC are due to launch a training scheme today aimed at improving the skills of 2,000 Irish craft workers.

The initiative is designed to increase the workers’ future career prospects.

More than 14,000 manufacturing workers have been laid off in Ireland so far this year as the country continues to move from a factory-based to a services-based economy.
