Tony Ball is to resign as CEO of BSkyB.

Tony Ball is to resign as CEO of BSkyB.

The company announced yesterday that he has decided not to renew his contract when it expires in May 2004.

He first joined the company in 1993, holding the positions of head of production and operations of Sky Sports and general manager/Broadcasting.

He returned to BSkyB as chief executive in June 1999.

Shares in the company fell today on speculation that his successor may be Rupert Murdoch’s second son James.
