Ryanair announces temporary route suspension

Ryanair, has said that it did not receive confirmation from the Nancy Court of Appeal of the stay it requested. This was regarding Strasbourg Court's order requiring the Strasbourg Chamber of Commerce to terminate its commercial agreement with Ryanair on 24 September next.

In order to give passengers at least four weeks notice, Ryanair says that from this date, the two daily Strasbourg-London flights will be suspended and will operate instead to Baden Baden Airport in Germany, 40k from Strasbourg.

Ryanair has confirmed to both Strasbourg Airport and the Chamber of Commerce that this suspension will be temporary.

Ryanair say it will make arrangements to recommence flights on the London-Strasbourg route if it is granted the stay or wins the appeal.

Speaking at a press conference in Strasbourg today, Ryanair's Chief Executive Michael O'Leary said;

"It is wrong that the anti-competitive Court actions of Air France should result in Strasbourg and the Alsace region losing - even on a temporary basis - its only scheduled air service to London."

He apologised sincerely to all of Ryanair's customers who may be inconvenienced by the flight switches, saying that the company will be offering full refunds or ticket transfers to the new route.
