FT stands over reporting of legal dispute

The editor of the Financial Times newspaper, Andrew Gowers, has said the paper stands behind its reporting of a legal dispute between British stockbroker Collins Stewart Tullett and former employee James Middleweek.

Gowers said that the newspaper believes there was a public interest in reporting the allegations in a balanced way.

Collins Stewart said in a statement to the London Stock Exchange that it would start legal proceedings against the FT over its coverage of allegations made by Middleweek against the firm.

The FT is part of Pearson PLC whose other newspaper titles include Les Echos in France and Spain's Expansion.
