Ryanair suspends flights after French subsidies ruling
Airline Ryanair has announced plans to suspend all flights on its London to Strasbourg route from next month due to a dispute over regional subsidies.
Ryanair made the decision after a French court ruled that officials at Strasbourg Airport had improperly used public funds by providing the airline with €1.4m in incentives to operate the route.
The European Commission is also due to rule later this year on whether a €1.5m deal between Ryanair and Charleroi Airport in Belgium constitutes an unfair government subsidy.
The outcome, which could serve as a test case for up to 17 other Ryanair destinations, could have serious consequences for the Irish airline's ability to provide cheaper flights than its competitors.
