British ports and ferries company P&O has received regulatory backing to form a joint venture with Stena at its Cairnryan port in Scotland.

But the Office of Fair Trading has asked the Competition Commission to judge on the group’s plan to sell certain assets of its Irish Sea ferry business to Stena.
