The short-end of the European government bonds market soared as US Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan signalled rates will stay low for as long as needed, analysts said.

However, yield on the 10-year European benchmark took most of the brunt, rising by some 11 basis points on the day, as Greenspan failed to hint at the use of unconventional measure to keep bond yields lower.
