TIF raise concerns with Minister
IBEC 's Telecoms and Internet Federation have met Communications Minister Dermot Ahern to raise concerns for the Irish television industry.
TIF includes NTL and Chorus as well as RTE, TV3 and TG4.
TIF have proposed that a pro-active, government/industry Broadcasting Strategy Group should be immediately established to consider existing and emerging broadcasting issues.
The group raised concerns that BBC’s decision to offer its television and radio channels free to Irish users via satellite could have serious repercussions.
They told Mr Ahern that FreeSat would mean that Ireland faced a loss of broadcasting sovereignty and could cause damage to the industry leading to job losses.
