Vodafone choose RealNetworks software

RealNetworks is to supply Vodafone with software to stream live video to mobile users.

The software will transmit real-time audio and video - including classical music concerts and video feeds of traffic trouble spots - to Vodafone's European customers.

RealNetworks is already used by Vodafone to bring live television and music to handsets.

Vodafone chose RealNetworks over Microsoft, which supplies its Media Player in its Windows software.

Microsoft has been pushing hard to get into the mobile space but companies in this space are not anxious for Microsoft to become dominant.
