O2 announces Spanish top-up deal

Telecom company O2 has announced a new deal with Alphyra which will allow Irish holidaymakers in Spain to top-up mobile phone credit in a wide range of outlets.

Speakeasy customers will now be able to purchase top-ups in Spanish bars, internet cafes, car-rental companies and souvenir shops.

Over 100 merchants are already recruited, and around 50 new outlets are being added to the scheme each week.

The service will initially be available on the Costa del Sol, the Balearics and the Canary Islands, but both companies hope to extend the facility to other popular destinations including Greece and Italy in the near future.

The payment system will also be available at selected sites across Alphyra’s existing network of over 80,000 payment terminals in the UK, France, Germany, Holland, Sweden and Ireland.
