Calvin Klein announces new clothing deal

Calvin Klein has signed US clothing giant Kellwood Co to develop a new women’s sportswear line, to be sold in department stores as early as spring 2004.

Kellwood beat Jones Apparel Group, which is on the hunt for new growth opportunities after a well-publicised feud with Polo Ralph Lauren.

Jones recently announced it was no longer producing Polo’s highly lucrative Ralph by Ralph Lauren line.

Calvin Klein will have design approval and will control branding, advertising and public relations.
