The North Western Regional Fisheries Board has revealed that 2002 was a record year for salmon angling.

The North Western Regional Fisheries Board has revealed that 2002 was a record year for salmon angling.

More than 10,000 licences were issued in the region, which includes parts of Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim.

Nearly as many anglers from the North and the UK bought Irish licences, showing the importance of salmon fishing to the tourism industry in the region.
