Unitech completes SEHB project

Unitech Systems, a leading technology consultancy, has carried out an innovative IT solutions project at the South Eastern Health Board (SEHB).

The project involved the supply and installation of new server technology to maintain a new, integrated medical laboratories database application that could be rolled out across the SEHB.

The project was carried out by Unitech in association with iSOFT, a global supplier of application systems to the healthcare sector, and involved one of the first ever implementations of IBM Unix technology in the Irish Health Board system.

The project involved the replacement of the existing separate medical laboratory database applications across five hospitals sites with a modern, integrated regional database application with improved functionality and reliability.

One of the key benefits is the improved integration of patient information as all hospitals will now be able to access and update the same database.

In consultation with iSOFT, Unitech installed IBM pSeries 660 server systems and IBM storage technology, selected for reasons of availability and reliability, to run the laboratories database application.

Unitech Systems was set up in 1998 to provide consultancy services on large and midrange systems, principally in the IBM and Oracle markets. Based in Sandyford, Co Dublin, the company has grown rapidly and is an IBM Advanced Business Partner in Ireland.
