Thatcher outlines concern over Blair's policies

Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher today received a standing ovation from the country’s business leaders after telling them she was concerned for the future of Britain under the policies of the Labour Government.

The 77-year-old was warmly welcomed after making a rare public appearance at the annual convention of the Institute of Directors at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Lady Thatcher, who has been left looking frail after suffering a stroke, has been told by her doctors not to make any more public speeches.

But in an interview for the IoD shown by video to the 2,000 delegates, she praised British Prime Minister Tony Blair for his leadership during the war with Iraq before going on to attack some of his policies.

After the 10-minute interview was shown, Lady Thatcher appeared briefly on the stage, carrying her trademark handbag.

She smiled and waved at the audience before having lunch with IoD officials.
