Dell to move into printer and ink market

Dell is to start take orders for its new laser and inkjet printers.

Dell made an agreement with Lexmark in September 2002, under which Lexmark has developed these printers, together with ink and toner cartridges branded in the Dell name.

It is not thought likely that Dell will enter into a price war with Hewlett Packard which at present dominates the market. It seems that it will try to concentrate on direct sales to its present customers who can order the printers and ink online.

Dell has developed a system under which customers will be told when the ink and toner runs down. They can then order new supplies online.
