A competition watchdog today handed the findings of an investigation into all five potential bidders of UK supermarket chain Safeway to the British government for approval.

By sending its report to UK's Trade and Industry Secretary Patricia Hewitt, the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has paved the way for a decision on which – if any - of the five possible bids will be referred for a full-blown probe.
