EU approves pay for fast internet

The European Commission has given the go ahead for funding to bring high speed internet services to rural regions.

The move is aimed at avoiding a digital divide between urban and rural areas and to encourage industry to set up in less populated centres across the EU.

Member of the European Parliament, Sean O'Neachtáin, says the scheme needs to be implemented in regions like the west of Ireland where development is critical for its survival.
