Baltimore to provide security applications for Telecom Italia

Baltimore Technologies, which is a provider of e-security, has announced that I.T. Telecom S.p.A. has selected Baltimore UniCERT(TM) to provide Telecom Italia Group and its customers with public-key infrastructure (PKI) security applications.

I.T. Telecom, the provider of IT based services and solutions to Telecom Italia, owns one of the largest Commercial Certified Authorities in Italy and provides PKI-based security services to the entire Telecom Italia Group.

Baltimore UniCERT enables I.T. Telecom to issue digital certificates to Telecom Italia's external partners and vendors as well as to customers of Telecom Italia's business units, both the fixed-line (TI Domestic Wireline) and mobile (TIM - Telecom Italia Mobile) divisions.

Digital certificates will authenticate and authorise recipients to access applications, such as secure email and secure VPN, as well as enabling digital signatures for integrity and non-repudiation of transactions.

The Baltimore solution also enables I.T. Telecom to issue AIPA (Authority for Computerisation in Public Administration) compliant certificates. These certificates meet the requirements of Italian legislation for secure Government communications.
