Love Hearts come up with sweet new messages
Love Heart sweets are to add 10 new messages to their range in time for Valentine’s Day, manufacturers announced today.
Traditional messages such as “Be Mine” and “Say Yes” will be joined by the text message-style sweet nothings “I Luv U 24/7” and the less romantic Homer Simpson catchphrase “Doh!”
The new messages were chosen after an Internet poll by manufacturers Swizzels Matlow and will be added into packs from Friday, February 14.
One slogan was chosen for each region of the UK as well as a slogan from Ireland.
Some were considered too rude to use, including Kinky, Nice Bum, Sex Bomb, Horny Devil and Bootylicious.
But the selected messages were:
:: Flirty Minx, London
:: I Want U, Midlands
:: Canny Lad, north east
:: Luv U 24/7, north west
:: My Wee Girl, Ireland
:: Bonnie Lass, Scotland
:: Hunk, south east
:: Doh!, south west
:: Cheeky Girl and Cheeky Boy, Wales
Spokesman Andrew Matlow said: “We wanted to invite sweet lovers to tell us what they would like to see in the future – and the nation has done us proud.
“The messages chosen are cute, fun and playful – perfect for Love Hearts - and just right for Valentine’s Day.”
Love Hearts were first made in England in the 1950s and more than 80 million tubes were sold last year.
I Love You was the first message ever printed on a Love Heart, and the last new addition to the range was in 1999 when the message “2000” was added to mark the new Millennium.
