US buyout giant may enter Safeway bidding war

New York-based buyout specialist Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co has made an approach to buy supermarket chain Safeway.

An American buyout giant was today poised to enter the bidding war for the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket chain, Safeway.

New York-based Kohlberg Kravis Roberts confirmed it was “considering its position in relation to a potential offer” for the group.
