US buyout giant may enter Safeway bidding war
An American buyout giant was today poised to enter the bidding war for the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket chain, Safeway.
New York-based Kohlberg Kravis Roberts confirmed it was “considering its position in relation to a potential offer” for the group.
It said it had made an approach but added “there can be no certainty that any proposal will be forthcoming”.
Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons are also in the fray trying to take over Safeway.
