Insurance may be slashed for good drivers

A major insurance firm is announcing plans to reward safe drivers with significantly reduced premiums.

Hibernian insurance says those with few or no penalty points should be able to avail of cheaper insurance.

However, the move will all depend on access to driver files.

The insurance company says it would need to see the number of penalty points being handed down to motorists.

The firm's head of marketing Ciaran Mahon says the anticipated reduction in accidents should result in cheaper insurance for safe drivers.
