O2 subscribers send record number of texts over Christmas

Subscribers of O2 sent a record seven million texts and picture messages on New Years Eve compared to 2.7 million sent last year according to the company.

A further five million texts were sent on Christmas Day while the remaining days during the period saw an average of 3.5 million texts being sent.

According to Jill Johnston, Community Relations Manager, "Altogether from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day the O2 network carried over 37 million messages.

"To carry this volume of messages you need a robust and reliable network.

"We invest €2m per week in the O2 network and are delighted to see the investment paying off with such a strong performance during the festive period."
