29 Irish companies rank in Euro Top 500

Twenty-nine Irish technology companies were ranked in the annual Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu European Technology Fast 500 Awards.

The awards focus on the technology, media and telecommunications industries.

The final ranking was unveiled during a high-profile technology, media and telecommunications conference and award ceremony in London.

David O'Flanagan, Partner with Deloitte & Touche, said: "We are extremely pleased with Ireland's performance. This Programme offers Irish companies the opportunity to assess their competitive position internationally.

"Despite the difficult global environment, Irish technology companies are continuing to grow with 6% of Europe's 500 fastest-growing technology companies being located here."

Representing 22 countries, the companies achieved an average revenue growth rate of 528% over a three-year period and were predominately based in the software, telecommunications and Internet sectors.

Danionics A/S of Denmark topped the list with aggregate growth in revenue of 33,879%.

Ireland's Fast 50 winner, eTel Group was ranked 34th, followed by Northern Ireland companies The Data Warehousing Practice and Biznet Solutions who were ranked 46th and 59th respectively.

Other newly emerging companies to make the top 100 were Macalla Software (ranked 67th), Webtrade (ranked 75th) and Electric Paper (ranked 93rd).
