Tourist body warns inflation damaging competition
The Irish Tourist Industry Confederation has warned that Ireland’s competitiveness as a tourist destination is being damaged by high inflation.
The ITIC said the Government should devise a rescue strategy for the industry.
Spokesman Brendan Leahy said: “Growth in tourism has slowed down and it’s too important an industry not to address that.
Therefore, what we need to do now is we need to sit down with the high-powered group and look at what needs to be done in terms of access to transport, in terms of prices and costs and competitiveness, but also in terms of new markets and arrangements. We need to get back to basics.”
