Exporters warn of US sanctions effect

The Irish Exporters' Association has warned that sanctions on US imports could make Ireland a less attractive location for US investment.

The Irish Exporters' Association has warned that sanctions on US imports could make Ireland a less attractive location for US investment.

The sanctions have been orchestrated by the European Union, and may detrimentally affect the 60% of Irish exports that come from US multinationals based here.

The majority of such companies import their raw material from the United States.

The organisation argues that, if tariffs are imposed, the cost of manufacturing goods here will increase to the disadvantage of business.

The 100% tariff was sanctioned by the World Trade Organisation last month in retaliation for subsidies given to US exporters.
