Star TV plans to lay off or redeploy 100 Hong Kong employees, many of them on the technical side of the business, the South China Morning Post reported on Saturday, citing company officials.

The broadcaster is also planning to close its headquarters in Clearwater Bay and contract out its "up-linking" - the transmission of its programmes to a satellite which beams them back to viewers, the report said.
