EU allows operators to share 3G costs

The EU Commission has said that it will allow Deutsche Telekom's subsidiary T-Mobile and mm02 to share the cost of building base stations and other infrastructure in the UK and Germany.

The ruling also allowed the company to share radio-access networks, which include the switches that complete mobile phone calls.

This decision should help the three companies (Vodafone, 02 and Hutchinson Whampao) which have obtained licences to operate 3G in Ireland.

It should enable them to share the costs.
