Report shows strong online clothing sales in UK

New statistics show online retailing is continuing to grow quickly in the UK.

The Interactive Media in Retail Group reports that total sales in June were up 106% on last year.

It says clothing was the top-performing category, registering an increase of 33% on the previous month.

The rise is partly attributed to the launch of new season catalogues, but shows a significant improvement on last year.

Online fashion retailer Boden recorded more than £1m (€1.5m) worth of web sales, double its tally for June, 2001.

Managing director Julian Granville says: "Our customers increasingly want to order over the internet and we have increased our capacity to match this trend."

IMRG publishes a monthly index tracking online retail sales in the UK.

The industry group includes TheAA.com, Arcadia Group, Homebase and Tesco among 63 contributing members.
