Hitachi creates water-cooled laptop computer
Hitachi is launching a water-cooled laptop in Japan.
The Flora 270W Silent machine uses a novel system to prevent over-heating.
Most notebooks currently available use air fans to cool processors.
Hitachi's alternative is to pump a water-based solution over the chips inside a flexible tube.
They admit this offers no tangible improvement on performance, other than to reduce noise.
According to IDG, Hitachi assures potential customers that the solution is separated from high-voltage areas by plastic panels.
The water solution is directed over the processor when the computer is in use and stored in a reservoir to cool when not.
