The Government today claimed that big financial losses incurred by British Nuclear Fuels Limited vindicated its view that nuclear energy was economically unsustainable.

Environment minister Martin Cullen said the deficit run up by BNFL confirmed the Irish position in demanding that reprocessing activities at the Sellafield plant run by the company in Cumbria should be stopped.
