Securities and Exchange Commission chairman Harvey Pitt rejected calls for his resignation in the wake of the recent wave of accounting scandals in the US.

Speaking on NBC television, Pitt said he has absolutely no intention to step down and that he is the right man for the job of SEC chairman.
