The London stock market suffered another bloodbath today – sliding nearly 3% as investors suffered a deepening crisis of confidence.

By mid-afternoon the FTSE 100 Index had plummeted more than 100 points to 4290.7, adding to yesterday’s 122.8-point slump and nearing its mid-session lows immediately after the September 11 attacks.
