Flextronics to close Limerick plant
Electronics company Flextronics said it will close its plant in Limerick with the loss of around 370 jobs in September.
Last March the company began a voluntary redundancy scheme which brought its headcount down by 130 workers from 500 staff.
Flextronics said that it expects to retain 150 positions in Limerick and Shannon, and it will move all of its manufacturing personnel to Cork.
Flextronics has operated two manufacturing plants, but with the closure of the Limerick plant, it will have only the Cork facility.
Flextronics is a provider of networking products to the telecommunications and IT sectors and has cited the global weakness in the electronics sector as the reason for its restructuring.
