Employees job hunt in employers time

Most people searching for a new job do so on their employers’ time, says a survey.

IT services firm Parity reported that almost half of job applications to its website were sent between 10am and 11am and at about 5pm.

Only 6% of applications were received during the lunch break, although a similar number was sent between 1am and 6am.

‘‘This is obviously a problem for employers, but it shouldn’t be resolved with the obvious knee-jerk reaction of clamping down on Internet usage,’’ said Parity managing director Dave Pye.

‘‘This bleed of talent can only be stemmed by organisations making a commitment to offering both temporary and permanent staff a clear career path.’’
