Alcatel to cut 480 jobs in Canada

Communications company Alcatel said it will cut 480 jobs in Canada, or 12% of its workforce in the country.

The cuts are part of a corporate restructuring announced last week that includes the loss of 10,000 jobs worldwide.

The company's credit rating was downgraded last month after Alcatel said it expects to post a loss for 2002.
