Chorus threaten to withdraw from State projects

The cable television and telecoms company Chrous are threatening to pull out of three State-backed infrastructure projects worth €72m.

The cable television and telecoms company Chrous may pull out of three State-backed infrastructure projects worth €72m.

This pull-out is blamed on by the ongoing cash crisis in the telecommunication sector.

Telecoms projects in county Kerry, the south-east region and the Border, Midlands and west will be affected.

This announcement is another setback for the Government in its attempt to encourage the roll-out of networks in the regions to enable its spatial policy.

However this gap might be offset by plans of the Department of Public Enterprise with a €300m fund, to support telecoms infrastructure in the country.
