An Post launches PostPoint

A range of household bills can now be paid at retail outlets throughout Ireland with PostPoint, An Post’s shop based electronic payment service network.

Today An Post formally launched its second retail network PostPoint which offers a range of services including bill payments, electronic mobile top up services, electronic phonecards and postal stamp products at local convenience stores.

The first outlet to be branded PostPoint was a Londis Topshop outlet at Parnell Street, Dublin.

An Post has signed a strategic alliance partnership with Londis Topshop to roll out the service to their full network over the coming weeks. More retail chains and hundreds of independent retailers are

expected to be added in the near future.

Each PostPoint outlet is equipped with an electronic terminal which processes mobile top up transactions, barcoded bill payments, magnetic swipe credit and debit card transactions and smartcard based transactions.

Already almost 3,000 shop outlets nationwide have been installed with a PostPoint terminal for processing electronic mobile top up transactions. An Post is now rolling out the full range of services to these outlets.

Household Bills which can be paid via PostPoint include telephone, mobile phone, gas, cable, and local authority rents using the barcode payment cards issued by these utilities.

Within the next few weeks consumers will be able to pay the paper bill for these utilities at PostPoint as they become barcoded.

Electronic top ups for Vodafone, O2, Meteor, and Swiftcall can be completed via the PostPoint terminal, which can also be used for normal purchases in store, where the consumer wishes to pay by debit or credit card.

Launching PostPoint, Mr. Eamonn Ryan, Managing Director, Post Offices Division, said: "PostPoint gives consumers a new convenient way to carry out their personal financial transactions. An Post is first to market in this country with bill payment facilities at shop outlets and reinforces our position as bill payment market leaders.

"PostPoint complements our other bill payment channels. PostPoint is also becoming established in the international market with operations in the United Kingdom and Spain where An Post has already deployed over 10,000 terminals in shop outlets."
